Chemical & Physical Properties:
Boron tribromide has a strong irritating odor, colorless or slight yellow fuming liquid. Relative density: 2.64kg/L, melting point: - 46"C, boiling point: 91.7C. Soluble in carbon tetrachloride, strong water absorption,easily decomposed by water and alcohol. Easy to decompose in case of heat and light, may explode when heated, exposure to the air will emit white smoke. It's Lewis acid, reacts with alkali to form complexes and adducts. A strong stimulating effect, strong causticity, toxic vapors.
Applications:
Used for semiconductor integrated circuits, solar cells, semiconductor separation devices and other industries as a p-type doping source,p-type doping of crystalline silicon by thermal diffusion. Second, boron
tribromide is also raw material of high purity boron and other organic boride.
